22-wheel truck crash in Buriram leaves six injured (2025)

A 22-wheel truck carrying a load of stones experienced brake failure and collided with seven stationary vehicles at a red light, resulting in numerous injuries. The driver suggested the incident could have been more severe if he hadn’t swerved.

Yesterday, March 31, at approximately 8.20am, Police Lieutenant Porachat Raksawong, a deputy inspector at Mueang Buriram Police Station, was informed of an accident involving a runaway truck crashing into multiple vehicles at Phatthara intersection in Samet subdistrict, Mueang district, Buriram province. Several people sustained injuries. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, responders discovered a 22-wheel truck with the license plate number 84-0842 from Buriram overturned, its stone cargo scattered across the road. The truck was driven by 26 year old Wichian Lueanfah, who sustained minor injuries to his right arm.

Seven cars were damaged, and a streetlight pole was also impacted. Police confirmed that CCTV captured the incident for evidence purposes.

In total, six people were injured, with one person in critical condition. Five injured people were transported to Buri Ram Hospital, while Wichian, the truck driver, declined medical treatment despite his minor injuries.

Wichian explained that he was transporting stones from a quarry to Lam Plai Mat district when his brakes overheated and failed while descending a hill near Phat intersection.

Losing control of the vehicle, he opted to turn left towards Prakhon Chai district, causing the truck to cross the footpath and hit vehicles stopped at the red light. He insisted that if he had not swerved, the truck might have barreled into oncoming traffic, leading to potentially more severe consequences.

Initially, police plan to review CCTV footage and interview witnesses at the scene. Wichian will be summoned for further questioning as part of the legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.
